What “vegan-friendly” means in these guides
Most Canadian hotels are not fully vegan. These guides therefore distinguish properties with clearly documented vegan meals from hotels that can adapt food only with advance notice. A vegetarian choice is not automatically vegan, and a vegan breakfast does not guarantee a suitable dinner.
Each selection combines current food evidence with a useful location and credible sustainability information. Menus and kitchen procedures still change, so strict dietary requirements, allergies and cross-contact questions should always be confirmed directly before arrival.
Every guide includes
- Three to five carefully selected stays
- A clear vegan classification for every property
- Breakfast and on-site dining evidence
- Location, transport and trip-fit guidance
- Property-specific sustainability information
- Booking links or justified direct-booking options

Explore Newfoundland & Labrador →Why city and province guides do not duplicate the same hotels
Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary have dedicated city selections, while their matching province guides focus on other destinations. Ottawa has its own city guide, and the Ontario guide remains a separate regional shortlist. This keeps each page useful and avoids repeating the same recommendations.
Match the route
Choose by the trip you want
Canada is too large for one universal itinerary. Start with your region and travel style, then compare the relevant guide.
Urban breaks
Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary or Ottawa for culture, dining and transit.
Pacific & Rockies
British Columbia and Alberta for coast, mountains, lodges and scenic drives.
Lakes & forests
Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba for retreats, spa stays and nature access.
Prairie routes
Manitoba and Saskatchewan for city stops, open landscapes and quieter stays.
Atlantic Canada
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI and Newfoundland for coastal itineraries.
Classification method
Read the label before booking
The accommodation and its regular food offer avoid animal-derived ingredients.
A vegetarian kitchen documents a meaningful vegan selection.
A mixed hotel explicitly provides vegan breakfast or restaurant choices.
Plant-based food depends on advance notice or current confirmation.
Before you travel
Turn the guide into a safe booking
Shortlist by location
Choose the city or province first, then compare neighbourhood, transport and trip fit.
Check the food evidence
Read whether the hotel lists vegan meals, provides them only on request or has limited breakfast support.
Confirm before arrival
Ask about current menus, advance notice, allergies, shared preparation and seasonal restaurant hours.
Canada hotel FAQ
Useful answers before you book
Are all hotels in these guides fully vegan?
No. Fully vegan hotels are rare in Canada. The guides clearly distinguish vegan-friendly dining, vegan breakfast, vegetarian kitchens with vegan dishes and food available only on advance request.
Why are there both city and province guides?
City guides help travellers who are staying in one major urban centre. Province guides are designed for wider trips and usually prioritise other destinations so the same hotels are not repeated.
Does a Booking.com dietary label guarantee every meal?
No. A platform label is useful evidence, but it does not guarantee availability at every meal or protect against cross-contact. Confirm your exact needs with the property.
When should I contact the hotel?
Contact the hotel before booking if vegan food is essential, and reconfirm shortly before arrival. Advance notice is particularly important at remote inns, lodges and set-menu properties.
