A little inspiration
Use these collections as starting points for different kinds of visits. They are editorial selections, not a ranking of the most vegan-friendly cities.

Plan breakfast and your return meal separately. Read the current seasonal and ingredient notes rather than assuming every waterside cafe serves a full vegan dinner.

Pick a meal you can actually order, save the address and check the kitchen cutoff. Keep a second option for a late arrival or a change of plans.
Make room for breakfast
A savory breakfast, a weekend brunch and coffee with a pastry are different plans. Use the city guide to find the right kind of stop, then check its actual morning service.
These four guides include breakfast planning. Their restaurants have different opening days and menu requirements; a brunch mention is not a promise of daily early service.
Know what you are choosing
Our city guides bring together different kinds of food stops. Read the individual profile rather than applying a vegan label to a whole business or destination.
The operator explicitly describes the menu as entirely vegan. Read any exceptions in the city guide and check separate allergy requirements; plant-based wording alone is not a blanket guarantee.
A mixed or vegetarian kitchen offers specific vegan dishes or a dedicated vegan section. The rest of its menu may contain animal products.
A meal needs substitutions or explicit kitchen confirmation. Treat a conditional option as unconfirmed until the complete preparation is clear.
A bakery, coffee shop or prepared-food counter may suit a lighter meal or provisions. It is not automatically a full restaurant or a dinner backup.
Eating vegan in the USA
Vegan food excludes animal ingredients, including meat, fish, dairy, eggs and honey. A vegetarian or dairy-free description alone does not establish that a dish is vegan. The Vegan Society explains the definition.
Ask about bread, cooking fats, broth, sauces and toppings as well as the main dish. A plant-based patty or tofu filling is only one part of the order.
Save the address linked in the city guide. Check relocations and nearby-town notes before matching a restaurant with a hotel, campus appointment or pickup order.
Confirm breakfast, dinner and takeaway separately. For seasonal trips, check the dates as well as the weekday. Ask about last orders before arriving late.
Save another full-meal option and arrange suitable provisions for early starts. Check price, portion and any substitution charge on the current menu before ordering.
A useful way to ask: “Could you make the whole meal vegan, including the bread, sauce, cooking fat and sides—without meat, fish, dairy, eggs or honey?”
