Vegan Hotels Vorarlberg compares three mixed-kitchen stays with directly documented plant-based provision, from an organic Alpine retreat to a cable-car-side mountain hotel and a sustainability-certified base in the Rhine Valley. Naturhotel Chesa Valisa offers the most extensive vegan choice, Hotel Sarotla can arrange plant-based catering throughout a stay, and Hotel am Garnmarkt combines a daily breakfast buffet with convenient public-transport access.
None of these properties is a fully vegan hotel. All also serve meat, dairy, eggs or other animal-derived products, and no separate vegan preparation area is documented. “Vegan-friendly” applies only to the provision described below. Contact each hotel before arrival to confirm current menus, bread and pastry ingredients, honey, shared utensils, preparation surfaces and allergy procedures. Advance notice is especially important at Hotel Sarotla.
HOTEL 01 · VEGAN-FRIENDLY · ORGANIC
Naturhotel Chesa Valisa
The strongest all-round choice for vegan travellers in Vorarlberg, with substantial plant-based provision, certified organic cuisine and an Alpine wellness setting above Hirschegg.
Naturhotel Chesa Valisa is a four-star-superior retreat at approximately 1,200 metres in Kleinwalsertal. The historic Walser house and newer buildings stand above Hirschegg, directly beside the Heubergarena slopes, making the property practical for ski-in/ski-out winter stays and summer walking. The hotel also includes the Walserbus and, in summer, regional mountain railways within its guest programme. Its large AlpinSPA, yoga schedule and mountain setting make it the most resort-like option in this guide. A separate Naturhotel Chesa Valisa hotel portrait provides additional property details.
The organic breakfast buffet publishes numerous vegan options, including warm porridge, homemade plant-based spreads, breads, muesli, fruit, vegetables, juices, smoothies and plant drinks. The restaurant also says it offers a wide selection of dishes for vegetarians and vegans throughout the day. This is nevertheless a mixed kitchen: official dining information also describes meat, fish, dairy, eggs and honey, as well as a nose-to-tail approach to animal products. Ask the kitchen to identify the current vegan dinner choices and explain shared preparation when cross-contact matters.
Chesa Valisa describes itself as Vorarlberg’s first certified organic Bio-Hotel, and its food programme is certified organic rather than merely using selected organic ingredients. The hotel reports energy-saving timber construction, natural materials such as wood and clay, regional organic sourcing, a permaculture garden and a certified climate footprint. Included local buses and summer cable cars can reduce car use during a stay. These measures are meaningful, but organic and climate credentials do not imply that the restaurant is plant-based.
- Classification: Vegan-friendly organic wellness hotel; mixed kitchen serving animal-derived food.
- Vegan highlight: The broadest provision in this guide, with vegan breakfast staples and plant-based dishes available across the hotel’s dining programme.
- Location: Above Hirschegg at roughly 1,200 metres, beside the Heubergarena slopes in Kleinwalsertal.
- Sustainability: Certified organic hotel and cuisine, natural building materials, energy-saving timber construction, regional sourcing and a documented climate strategy.
- Best for: Vegan choice, organic food, yoga, wellness, skiing and a longer mountain retreat.
HOTEL 02 · VEGAN-FRIENDLY ON REQUEST
Hotel Sarotla
The best option for a car-light activity holiday in Brand, provided vegan catering is requested before arrival.
Hotel Sarotla is a four-star mountain hotel in the village of Brand, around 1,000 metres above sea level at the southern end of Brandnertal. It stands immediately opposite the Dorfbahn and close to ski pistes, walking routes, the golf and tennis facilities, and the village’s natural swimming lake. The hotel says guests can leave their car parked for much of the stay. Travellers arriving by rail can continue from Bludenz station on bus line L81 to the Dorfbahn Brand stop.
The hotel explicitly states that vegan catering can be provided throughout a stay and that its kitchen can cook without meat, milk, eggs or cheese. This is an advance-request service rather than a documented, permanently separate vegan menu: the standard breakfast buffet and four-course dinner programme are mixed, while the restaurant also handles common animal-derived ingredients. Notify the hotel when booking, repeat the request before arrival and ask exactly what breakfast, afternoon and dinner choices will be prepared. Guests with allergies should request a separate conversation about cross-contact rather than relying on the vegan label alone.
Sarotla says its kitchen works with fresh, regional and seasonal food, including ingredients gathered locally when available. The compact village setting, immediate cable-car access and bus connection from Bludenz support a lower-car itinerary. No current property-wide environmental certification was identified, so the hotel is not presented as an eco-hotel. Its main strength is the combination of adaptable catering and an unusually convenient mountain location.
- Classification: Vegan-friendly on request; conventional mountain hotel with a mixed kitchen.
- Vegan highlight: Plant-based catering can be arranged throughout the stay, but it must be requested in advance and current dishes should be confirmed.
- Location: Central Brand, directly opposite the Dorfbahn and close to pistes, hiking, golf, tennis and the natural swimming lake.
- Sustainability: Regional and seasonal sourcing plus a location suited to car-light days; no independent property-wide green certification verified.
- Best for: Skiing, hiking, cable-car access, active couples and travellers wanting breakfast-and-dinner catering by prior arrangement.
HOTEL 03 · VEGAN-FRIENDLY BREAKFAST
Hotel am Garnmarkt
The most practical Rhine Valley base, pairing daily vegan breakfast choices with the Austrian Ecolabel and straightforward public-transport connections.
Hotel am Garnmarkt occupies a central position in Götzis, within walking distance of local restaurants, shops and services. A regional bus stops directly at Garnmarkt, while the hotel places Götzis railway station about 15 minutes away. The location works well for business trips, cycling and itineraries connecting Feldkirch, Dornbirn, Bregenz and other Rhine Valley destinations. The hotel has a bar but no lunch or dinner restaurant, so guests should plan evening meals separately.
The official breakfast information confirms vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free dishes every day within a regional and organic mixed buffet. A separate breakfast description names plant-based milk alternatives but does not provide a complete item-by-item vegan list. Animal-derived meat, cheese, yogurt, eggs and honey are served alongside the plant-based choices. Ask the team to identify suitable bread, pastries, cereals and spreads, and contact the hotel in advance if a wider vegan selection or specific allergy controls are necessary.
Hotel am Garnmarkt holds the Austrian Ecolabel and publishes a detailed reduction strategy covering green electricity, efficient lighting and equipment, waste separation, fewer single-use buffet packages and regional, organic or Fairtrade purchasing. It also provides electric-vehicle charging and encourages arrival by train, bus or bicycle. Guests receive a regional mobility card for public transport across Vorarlberg, while the hotel offers a small regional gift to thank travellers who arrive by public transport.
- Classification: Vegan-friendly at breakfast; conventional hotel with a mixed buffet and no lunch or dinner restaurant.
- Vegan highlight: Daily vegan buffet choices and plant-milk alternatives, with advance contact recommended for a detailed current selection.
- Location: Central Götzis, with a bus stop at Garnmarkt and the railway station described by the hotel as around 15 minutes away.
- Sustainability: Austrian Ecolabel, green electricity, waste and packaging reduction, responsible purchasing, EV charging and public-transport incentives.
- Best for: Rail trips, Rhine Valley touring, short business stays, cycling and travellers prioritising independently checked environmental standards.
Choosing a vegan-friendly hotel in Vorarlberg
Naturhotel Chesa Valisa is the clear first choice for the widest documented vegan provision, organic cuisine and a full mountain-wellness experience. Hotel Sarotla is best for an active stay directly beside the Dorfbahn when plant-based catering has been agreed in advance. Hotel am Garnmarkt offers the strongest independent sustainability credential and the easiest base for exploring the Rhine Valley by public transport.
Vorarlberg stretches from Lake Constance and the Rhine Valley to Bregenzerwald, Brandnertal and Kleinwalsertal, so choosing the right subregion matters as much as choosing the hotel. Travellers combining several Austrian regions can compare the dedicated Tyrol, Salzkammergut, Carinthia, Salzburger Land and Styria guides.
