Sweden’s West Coast is one of the country’s most convincing holiday regions, and these three Bohuslän stays have the clearest current vegan evidence found on official hotel pages. The official Visit Sweden guide describes a 280-kilometre Bohuslän archipelago with more than 8,000 islands. Scandic Laholmen is the strongest property-specific breakfast choice, TanumStrand can arrange fully plant-based meals through its special-diet process, and Stenungsbaden Yacht Club explicitly lists vegan breakfast options.

None of these properties is a fully vegan hotel. Their restaurants and buffets serve animal-derived food, and no reviewed source promises a dedicated vegan preparation area. Contact the property before arrival when you need vegan meals beyond breakfast, and discuss shared utensils and cross-contact separately when allergies are involved.

HOTEL 01 · VEGAN-FRIENDLY

Scandic Laholmen, Strömstad

The best-documented everyday breakfast option in this guide, with a harbour setting near the Koster Islands.

Scandic Laholmen occupies a waterfront landmark in central Strömstad. The official hotel page places it beside the sea and highlights day trips to the Koster Islands and Kosterhavet Marine National Park, making it the most northerly Bohuslän base in this selection.

Current vegan evidence: The hotel’s own breakfast page says its buffet always includes vegan-friendly alternatives. Scandic’s official breakfast policy adds that 100% vegan products are marked with a green label. This is still a mixed buffet, so ask about bread, pastries, hot dishes and serving utensils on your dates.

Sustainability and location: The property carries Nordic Swan Ecolabel licence 3055 0510. Its sustainability page documents work on water, energy, chemicals, recycling, organic food and support for West Coast beach clean-ups.

  • Classification: Vegan-friendly; conventional restaurant and mixed buffet.
  • Vegan highlight: Property-specific vegan-friendly breakfast wording plus Scandic’s green vegan labels.
  • Best for: Strömstad, Kosterhavet, island trips and the clearest regular breakfast evidence.

HOTEL 02 · VEGAN-FRIENDLY ON ADVANCE REQUEST

TanumStrand SPA & Resort, Grebbestad

A large archipelago resort with a documented process for arranging 100% plant-based meals in advance.

TanumStrand sits on the cliffs between Grebbestad and Fjällbacka, with hotel rooms, cottages, a marina and spa. The official overview confirms its position in the northern Bohuslän archipelago and year-round resort format.

Current vegan evidence: TanumStrand’s official special-diet policy includes “100% plant-based (vegan)” in its basic level. However, the regular Latitude 58° page describes standard menus built around meat, fish and vegetarian dishes rather than promising a standing vegan choice. Submit the vegan request with the booking, confirm that it applies to every included meal, and do not rely on the seafood or barbecue buffets without a specific arrangement.

Sustainability and location: TanumStrand’s sustainability page identifies the resort as Nordic Swan Ecolabelled and documents reduced room cleaning, waste work, CleanSea support and participation in West Sweden’s sustainable-tourism initiatives.

  • Classification: Vegan-friendly on advance request; seafood-focused mixed resort kitchens.
  • Vegan highlight: A formal policy that can cover fully plant-based special-diet meals.
  • Best for: Families, spa time, Grebbestad and Fjällbacka excursions, and pre-arranged package meals.

HOTEL 03 · VEGAN-FRIENDLY

Stenungsbaden Yacht Club, Stenungsund

A fjord-side spa hotel with vegan breakfast options stated directly on its current hotel listing.

Stenungsbaden Yacht Club faces Hake Fjord in Stenungsund, roughly 30 minutes north of Gothenburg by car. Its official Strawberry page highlights the Bluewater Spa, floating sauna, guest harbour and access to the surrounding archipelago.

Current vegan evidence: The same current hotel page explicitly lists vegan options at the breakfast buffet. It does not identify every vegan item or promise separate utensils, and the Captain’s Table and seasonal restaurant remain conventional mixed kitchens. Breakfast is therefore the strongest documented meal; ask ahead for current dinner provision.

Sustainability and location: Strawberry gives the property an 8.1/10 sustainability rating based on energy, water, waste, food waste, chemicals, laundry and emissions. The rating is useful operational context, but it does not make the food service vegan or guarantee a particular menu.

  • Classification: Vegan-friendly; mixed breakfast and conventional restaurants.
  • Vegan highlight: Vegan breakfast options are named on the current property page.
  • Best for: Spa weekends, Hake Fjord, southern Bohuslän and access from Gothenburg.

Choosing a vegan-friendly stay on Sweden’s West Coast

Scandic Laholmen has the clearest routine breakfast evidence and the best base for Strömstad and Kosterhavet. TanumStrand suits travellers who will arrange every vegan package meal before arrival. Stenungsbaden Yacht Club is the easiest spa-led choice from Gothenburg, with vegan breakfast options stated on its current listing.

When contacting a hotel, ask what will be available on your exact dates, whether bread and pastries contain dairy, egg or honey, whether hot vegan food is prepared separately, and whether clean utensils can be provided. A vegan preference and an allergy-safe preparation plan are not the same request.
