Vietnam city guide · Research checked 17 September 2026
Looking for vegan-friendly hotels in Hanoi? The right choice depends on both your neighbourhood and the meals you want on site. This guide compares Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi, InterContinental Hanoi Westlake and La Siesta Classic Ma May: a heritage hotel with a recent vegan guest report, a lakeside hotel with explicitly vegan lunch choices, and an Old Quarter candidate whose vegetarian menu still needs a vegan preparation check. [2] [4] [7]
Which Hanoi hotel should you investigate first?
Our first enquiry for a breakfast-led stay would be Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi. Compare InterContinental Hanoi Westlake when a lakeside setting matters, and La Siesta Classic Ma May when you want an Old Quarter base and are prepared to settle the food before booking. These are different levels of evidence, not three equally confirmed vegan meal packages.
Affiliate disclosure: the Booking.com buttons are affiliate links to clearly labelled hotel-name searches. A qualifying reservation may earn Vegan Lifestyle a commission at no extra cost to you. Check the exact property and rate; a search result does not confirm vegan meals or availability.
Hanoi hotel comparison: location and food evidence
Choose the neighbourhood as well as the hotel
Central Hanoi and the Old Quarter
The Metropole lists 15 Ngo Quyen Street. La Siesta Classic Ma May and its Red Bean restaurant are at 94 Ma May Street in the Old Quarter. Compare the exact addresses rather than treating all central hotels as interchangeable. [1] [6]
A West Lake base
InterContinental Hanoi Westlake is at 5 Tu Hoa Street. Café du Lac looks over West Lake, a different setting from the Old Quarter. The title photograph shows Hoan Kiem Lake, not West Lake or a hotel view. [3]
Our planning suggestion is to map one typical day before choosing a rate. A central base may suit a trip spent mostly out exploring; a lakeside hotel may appeal when you want more time on the property. Decide which meals you will actually eat there, then compare the relevant food arrangements.
Three Hanoi stays to compare
Stay 01 · Heritage setting · Recent vegan guest experience
Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi
Location: 15 Ngo Quyen Street
Consider it for: an occasion-focused stay with chef-arranged vegan meals
The Metropole brings together its Heritage and Opera wings at a hotel whose history dates to 1901. That makes it a distinct option for travellers who want the accommodation to be part of their Hanoi experience. Compare the wing and actual room category, not just the shared hotel name. [1]
A Vegan Food Quest review published in June 2026 describes vegan breakfast at Le Club Bar, including staff-arranged noodle soup, congee and fresh rolls. The writers also report a vegetarian tasting menu adapted to vegan at Le Beaulieu. Their stay was hosted by the hotel; this is their first-hand experience, not our own visit or a standard package we have verified. [2]
Our suggestion is to use that evidence to request a similarly concrete meal plan. Ask which venue would serve your breakfast, what is available on an ordinary booked rate and how much notice a dinner adaptation needs. A reported tasting-menu experience is a reason to enquire, not an automatic inclusion with every room.
September 2026 planning note: at the research date, the hotel announced phased Opera Wing refurbishment through late September 2026. Confirm the latest work schedule and your room allocation before reserving that period. [1]
Stay 02 · West Lake · Operator-labelled vegan lunch
InterContinental Hanoi Westlake
Location: 5 Tu Hoa Street, West Lake
Consider it for: a lakeside stay with documented plant-based lunch options
Café du Lac is the hotel's lake-facing, French-brasserie-style restaurant. It serves several meals, but the specific evidence for this guide is its currently linked lunch menu. Keeping the venue and meal separate is important when deciding whether to pay for an inclusive breakfast or a broader dining package. [3]
The lunch menu defines VG as vegan and distinguishes it from vegetarian. Its VG-marked choices include a roasted-vegetable fougasse sandwich with chickpea purée and the Café du Lac garden salad. These are explicit operator labels, rather than an assumption based only on vegetable ingredients. [4]
That is a useful basis for a lunch plan, but it does not establish a complete vegan breakfast. Ask for the morning meal separately, including a substantial main item and a plant drink. For several nights, check how much variety can be offered instead of relying on one sandwich as the answer to every meal.
Other hotel restaurants need their own checks. Saigon Restaurant's linked menu describes its vegetarian fried rice with egg and also carries a fish-sauce marker. It should not be ordered as vegan in that printed form. Do not transfer Café du Lac's vegan labels to another venue's menu. [5]
Stay 03 · Old Quarter · Conditional vegetarian-menu lead
La Siesta Classic Ma May
Location: 94 Ma May Street, Old Quarter
Consider it for: an Old Quarter stay only after the kitchen confirms suitable meals
Red Bean Ma May is on the ground floor of La Siesta Classic Ma May. The property is useful to compare when you want this particular Old Quarter address and an on-site restaurant to discuss food with. Keep it distinct from the other La Siesta properties and other Red Bean restaurants in Hanoi. [6]
The linked 2026 menu contains a vegetarian section, not a vegan declaration. Fresh rice-paper rolls with soy sauce and an aubergine, mushroom and tofu dish provide sensible starting points for an enquiry. The descriptions alone do not establish the complete recipe, stock or preparation method. [7]
Ask which dishes can be made without fish or oyster sauce, animal stock, eggs, dairy and honey. Include the dipping sauce and any garnish in the question. Request a separate vegan breakfast description; a possible lunch or dinner does not confirm what you will eat in the morning.
This is deliberately a conditional accommodation lead, not a confirmed vegan-friendly dining recommendation. Our suggestion is to keep the booking flexible until you have a specific reply. A response naming two or three suitable dishes is more useful than a generic statement that vegetarian guests are welcome.
Build a vegan breakfast that works for your day
Ask what will actually be served
A useful reply names the main dish, accompaniments and drink. Check broth, sauces, cooking fat and toppings separately. Do not settle for the word vegetarian when your request excludes animal ingredients.
Agree the timing and inclusion
Match breakfast to the first activity of the day. Ask about the serving venue, start time and any separate order or supplement. An early departure needs its own arrangement rather than an assumption that the standard service will be available.
For a longer stay, request some variety. You might prefer a substantial savoury meal on sightseeing days and a lighter breakfast on slower mornings. These are planning suggestions, not a promise that any hotel will provide a particular off-menu item.
What to ask before booking a Hanoi hotel
Choose your preferred neighbourhood and room requirements, then settle the meals you need. For the conditional Ma May option in particular, obtain the kitchen's reply before making a non-refundable reservation. Compare breakfast-inclusive and room-only offers only after you understand the food and charges.
We eat vegan, without meat, fish, seafood, fish sauce, oyster sauce, animal stock, dairy, eggs or honey. Please describe a complete breakfast and a suitable dinner for our dates, including sauces and broth. Which restaurant serves them, how much notice is required, and which meals are included in our selected room rate?
Keep the reply with your booking and identify the agreed venue when you arrive. Describe any allergy separately rather than treating a vegan request as an allergy arrangement. For a trip through both cities, compare this plan with our Ho Chi Minh City / Saigon hotel guide.
Vegan-friendly hotels in Hanoi: FAQ
Are these three hotels fully vegan?
No. The guide compares conventional hotels with different food evidence. La Siesta Classic Ma May is explicitly a conditional vegetarian-menu lead, not a verified vegan dining option.
Which hotel has recent first-hand vegan breakfast evidence?
The Metropole has a June 2026 Vegan Food Quest review describing staff-arranged meals during a hosted stay. Request an arrangement for your own dates rather than assuming the review experience is included. [2]
Does InterContinental Westlake have a vegan-labelled menu?
Café du Lac's currently linked lunch menu identifies vegan choices with VG. That evidence concerns lunch, not a complete breakfast or every restaurant in the hotel. [4]
Is Red Bean Ma May's vegetarian section automatically vegan?
No. It provides useful dishes to discuss, but the kitchen needs to confirm ingredients and preparation. Breakfast also needs a separate enquiry. [7]
Does a breakfast-inclusive Booking.com rate confirm vegan food?
No. A rate describes a meal inclusion, not necessarily the dishes or preparation you require. Agree the vegan meal with the hotel and retain the reply.
