Sri Lanka city-area guide · research checked 13 September 2026
Looking for vegan hotels in Colombo? Compare the location and the food evidence together. This guide starts with Radisson Hotel Colombo, whose Dine restaurant lists vegan options, then considers Mount Lavinia Hotel on the coast south of the city and Cinnamon Grand Colombo as a central alternative with vegetarian dishes that need vegan confirmation. These are three different starting points, not three fully vegan hotels.
Where should a vegan traveller start in Colombo?
Radisson provides the clearest current operator statement in this selection. Mount Lavinia has a specifically named vegan dish in an accessible, undated restaurant PDF, but its present availability and a complete meal plan need reconfirming. Cinnamon Grand publishes a vegetarian section at Plates, not an expressly vegan menu. Choose with those distinctions in mind. [C1] [C3] [C5]

Three hotels, different food evidence
Choose your Colombo base before the room
Clifford Place: an ocean-facing city hotel
Radisson lists 36–38 Clifford Place, Colombo 00400. It offers a rooftop pool and several room categories, including options with ocean views. Use the actual category and address when comparing it with a central-city hotel; an appealing restaurant outlook is not a view guarantee for every bedroom. [C2]
Central Colombo: city outings and shopping
Cinnamon Grand's operator places the hotel near Crescat Boulevard and lists Galle Face Green among its location highlights. Our suggestion is to consider this base when city outings matter more than a resort-style stay. Resolve the kitchen's vegan preparation before letting the central setting decide the booking. [C6]
Mount Lavinia: a separate coastal stay
Mount Lavinia Hotel's address is 100 Hotel Road in Dehiwala–Mount Lavinia. Treat it as the coastal extension of this comparison, not as a hotel beside Colombo Fort. Work out how often you intend to travel into the city, rather than relying on an advertised drive time or the broad word “Colombo”. [C4]

Radisson Hotel Colombo
Location: Clifford Place, Colombo 04
Best fit: a city hotel with an explicit food-based starting point
The hotel's dining directory specifically labels Dine as offering vegan options. Its separate breakfast listing uses different dietary categories, so the restaurant statement should not be stretched into a promise about everything on the morning buffet. Ask Dine to name a complete vegan breakfast and a main meal for your stay. [C1]
Dine is an all-day venue serving local and international food. This gives you one named team to approach for meals rather than assuming that room service, the rooftop venue and the restaurant share identical vegan choices. Establish the serving location and charges, especially when considering delivery to your room. [C7]
The rooftop pool and fitness facilities offer ways to use the hotel between outings. Compare room space and outlook separately from those shared facilities. A short stay may work best with a dependable breakfast and one planned dinner, leaving the other evening open to your city itinerary. [C2]
For several nights, request variety rather than one adapted dish repeated daily. A useful reply describes the main ingredient, accompaniments and preparation, and explains whether the meal is included in your rate. Keep a copy alongside your reservation.
Stay 02 · Published vegan dish · current availability to reconfirm
Mount Lavinia Hotel
Location: Dehiwala–Mount Lavinia, south of central Colombo
Best fit to investigate: a coastal base with a specific menu item to discuss
The Governor's Restaurant PDF contains a Vegan Caesar Salad, described with a smoky dressing, croutons and chickpeas. That is a genuine, explicitly named vegan item, not a guess based on a salad photograph. However, the document is undated and sits in a 2023 upload directory; its accessibility does not establish that the same menu is served today. [C3]
Read the legend carefully. The PDF uses V for vegetarian and warns that these dishes may contain egg. Its vegetable rice-and-curry and other V-marked dishes should therefore be discussed individually rather than treated as an all-vegan selection. This is precisely why an item name is more useful than an unexplained initial. [C3]
Our recommendation is to ask for a current menu and a complete breakfast-and-dinner proposal before reserving. A salad alone is not the foundation of a varied hotel meal plan. Ask which substantial mains can be made vegan, how the sauces and cooking fats are handled, and what is included.
Choose this address for the coastal setting you actually want. Plan central-Colombo visits as outings from Mount Lavinia, and keep the first arrival and onward departure practical. This article does not confirm a recurring vegan-buffet event or any particular event date.
Stay 03 · Vegetarian-menu lead · vegan confirmation required
Cinnamon Grand Colombo
Location: central Colombo, near Crescat Boulevard
Best fit to investigate: a city-focused stay after a clear kitchen reply
Plates publishes a vegetarian section with rice and curry and a vegetable string-hopper biriyani with coconut gravy. These are concrete dishes to ask about, but the page does not call them vegan. The hotel belongs here as a conditional accommodation candidate, not as a third equally verified vegan-friendly recommendation. [C5]
The wider menu illustrates the need to read beyond vegetable-led names: some sides use butter, and the garden salad includes honey in its dressing. Ask about each preparation, including stock, cooking fats and garnishes, instead of simply requesting “the vegetarian option”. [C5]
The operator presents a large city hotel with several different restaurants and nearby shopping. That makes it a distinct stay format from the Mount Lavinia coastal option, but the number of venues does not strengthen the vegan-food evidence. Direct your first enquiry to Plates, then identify any other venue you actually plan to use. [C6]
Keep the booking flexible while the food is unresolved. Request a substantial breakfast, a named main course and sufficient variation for your stay. A broad answer about dietary preferences does not settle whether your chosen breakfast-inclusive rate will provide what you need.
Make breakfast part of the booking decision
Ask about the whole plate
A practical request might combine rice or another filling accompaniment with lentils, vegetables and suitable bread. These are suggestions to discuss, not confirmed menus at all three hotels.
Ask explicitly about fish, dried fish, seafood, animal stock, dairy, ghee, butter, eggs and honey. Check sambols, sauces and toppings individually. “Coconut”, “vegetable” and “lactose-free” do not answer every ingredient question.
A message for the hotel
We eat vegan, without meat, fish, dried fish, seafood, animal stock, dairy, ghee, butter, eggs or honey. Please describe a complete breakfast and suitable dinner for our dates. Which dishes are available, where are they served, what does our selected rate include, and how much advance notice is required?
Plan the stay around your actual outings
Our editorial suggestion is to choose one Colombo-area base rather than change hotels for every meal. For a city-focused break, group your outings geographically and leave time for a relaxed breakfast. For a Mount Lavinia stay, deliberately plan the days you will spend away from the coast.
Book an arrival-night meal when that simplifies a late journey. Before an early departure, ask for the exact food and collection time; an ordinary breakfast service is not automatically available earlier. Compare any supplement with the convenience it provides instead of assuming the broadest meal package is the best value.
Continue with our Kandy hotel and countryside-retreat guide for a contrasting inland stay. Confirm transport schedules, journey times and attraction access separately; this guide does not verify them or turn a proposed itinerary into a bookable package.
Vegan hotels in Colombo: FAQ
Are these three hotels completely vegan?
No. Radisson lists vegan restaurant options, Mount Lavinia has a named vegan dish in an undated menu, and Cinnamon Grand remains a vegetarian-menu enquiry candidate. None is described here as entirely vegan.
Which hotel has the clearest current vegan-food statement?
Radisson Hotel Colombo lists vegan options for Dine on its property-specific dining page. Ask about breakfast and actual dishes separately rather than applying the label to every meal service. [C1]
Does V mean vegan on the Mount Lavinia menu?
No. Its legend identifies V as vegetarian and warns that egg may be present. The explicitly named Vegan Caesar Salad is a separate item-level lead; the menu's current use still needs confirmation. [C3]
Is Cinnamon Grand confirmed vegan-friendly by this research?
Not as a complete meal arrangement. Plates publishes vegetarian dishes, but their vegan preparation and a suitable breakfast were not established. The profile is clearly marked as requiring confirmation. [C5]
Is Mount Lavinia Hotel in central Colombo?
No. It is in Dehiwala–Mount Lavinia at 100 Hotel Road. The guide includes it as a coastal alternative in the wider Colombo area, not as a hotel beside Colombo Fort. [C4]
Does a Booking.com reservation confirm vegan meals?
No. A reservation confirms the accommodation and its stated rate conditions, not a personalised dietary agreement. Check the exact hotel and room, then agree dishes, serving times and any extra charges with the kitchen.
