Find your next vegan meal in Freiburg

Breakfast in Stühlinger, a filled bagel, vegetable-led lunch in Wiehre or an Indian curry — four addresses for different parts of your food day.

This guide to vegan restaurants in Freiburg covers vegetarian-vegan and mixed venues with plant-based choices. It does not classify all four businesses as entirely vegan. The profiles identify the preparation to choose and the service details to check.

4 restaurant & café profilesBreakfast, bagels, seasonal food & curriesResearch: 30 Sep 2026

Looking for vegan food in Freiburg im Breisgau? Start with the meal and neighbourhood that fit your plans. A café breakfast, a bagel to take away and a curry dinner involve different portions and service windows. This is an editorial shortlist rather than a ranking, with current source links beside each profile.

Choose your kind of meal

A Stühlinger morning

Café Huber

Stühlinger · Wentzingerstraße

Vegetarian · vegan choicesBreakfast & lunchCoffee & cake

A slower café meal on the Stühlinger side of the station

Huber describes vegetarian-vegan breakfast, lunch and house baking. The café is useful when you would rather sit down for a morning meal than collect food on the way. Its drinks menu includes plant-milk options, while the day’s food selection should be checked directly. Do not extend the operator's description of mostly vegan cakes into a claim that the entire café menu is vegan.

Match breakfast to its window: The café opens at 09:00 Wednesday to Saturday, but its website advertises breakfast from 10:00 to 15:00. Confirm the day's vegan breakfast and any additions before ordering.

Highlights: Vegetarian-vegan café food, house baking and a separate breakfast window.

Berthas Bagels

Stühlinger · Guntramstraße

Vegan optionsFilled bagelsEat in or take away

A filled-bagel stop rather than a long restaurant meal

Freiburg's official tourism listing describes vegan and vegetarian choices at Berthas Bagels, with the option to eat in or take your order away. Ask which complete vegan filling is available today, including the spread and extras. This is a practical alternative when you want a focused breakfast or lunch order without planning several courses.

Check the current selection: A complete current operator menu was not verified. The tourism listing supports the venue and vegan options, but does not guarantee a particular filling.

Highlights: A daytime bagel option with vegan choices documented by Freiburg tourism.

lieblings’

Wiehre · Konradstraße

Vegetarian · vegan choicesChanging lunchGalettes & vegetables

Seasonal vegetables and a different lunch each day

lieblings’ publishes a weekday lunch menu alongside galettes and other restaurant dishes. The inspected menu includes quinoa with seasonal vegetables and tahini-style dressing, and stuffed aubergine with pulses, turmeric rice and tomato sauce. The menu identifies vegan dishes and offers plant-based versions of its non-vegan daily specials on request. Choose the current day's preparation rather than treating those examples as permanent orders.

Ask for the full vegan version: A galette made with buckwheat is not automatically vegan once cheese, egg or other additions are included. Specify the complete preparation and confirm any substitutions with staff.

Highlights: A vegetable-led lunch in Wiehre with vegan choices and adaptations.

Green Dabba

Markgrafenstraße · Freiburg

Vegetarian · vegan choicesIndian foodCurries & street food

Choose a vegan curry and pair it with suitable sides

Green Dabba marks Chana Masala, Kadhai Tofu and its coconut-based Planted Chicken Curry vegan. Tawa roti and plainly labelled rice dishes offer accompanying choices. The menu also contains vegetarian dishes made with dairy, including some that use a plant-based chicken alternative. Read the vegan label for the whole recipe: a meat-free protein does not settle the sauce, cooking fat or bread.

Confirm a weekend lunch: The homepage publishes evening opening, while the menu advertises a Saturday–Sunday lunchtime thali. Check that specific service directly before arranging a daytime visit.

Highlights: Clearly labelled Indian vegan dishes, with sauces and sides considered together.

Vegan breakfast and brunch in Freiburg

Choose your morning format

Huber suits a café breakfast and Berthas a focused bagel order. At both, ask for the complete vegan preparation rather than changing only the milk in your coffee.

Check the food window

Huber's breakfast starts later than its Wednesday–Saturday café opening. A door opening at 09:00 does not mean every breakfast dish is already being served.

A bagel, a full breakfast and coffee with cake need different amounts of time. Before a train, allow for preparation and your route back to the station. For a group, confirm seating and the current breakfast selection instead of assuming an unlimited brunch buffet.

Plan your Freiburg food stops

Keep the neighbourhood in mind

The two Stühlinger café stops, Konradstraße in Wiehre and Green Dabba's Markgrafenstraße address are separate destinations. Use the full address rather than treating this list as a guaranteed short walking route.

Confirm the full vegan order

Vegetarian-vegan kitchens still use dairy or eggs in some dishes. Check spreads, dressings, sauces and bread additions, especially when a dish is vegan only after adaptation.

Status update: ADELHAUSThe operator reports that service is paused following water damage and a temporary-location phase. No reopening date is confirmed. ADELHAUS is therefore not included as an active restaurant recommendation here. Check the operator's current notice before planning a future visit.

The former Katzentempel Freiburg is listed as closed by HappyCow and is not retained as an active profile. Older city guides and cached opening hours should not override current status information.

Continue with Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Mannheim, Augsburg, Chemnitz, Halle (Saale) and Magdeburg.

Frequently asked questions

Are the four profiles entirely vegan restaurants?

No. They cover vegetarian-vegan kitchens and mixed businesses with vegan options. Follow the individual labels and ordering notes rather than applying one classification to the whole selection.

Where can I start with a vegan breakfast?

Huber publishes vegetarian-vegan breakfast service, while Berthas Bagels has vegan options documented by Freiburg tourism. Confirm the complete current food offer and your chosen day.

Does a plant-based chicken dish at Green Dabba automatically mean vegan?

No. Some dishes using a plant-based protein are labelled vegetarian because of the rest of the recipe. Choose the explicitly vegan dish and check sides and sauces.

Is ADELHAUS currently included for buffet dining?

No. The operator reports paused service and no confirmed reopening date. The guide links that status notice instead of repeating the old buffet timetable.

Can I browse without Google Maps consent?

Yes. Restaurant text, addresses and ordinary links remain available. Embedded Google photos and mini-maps are optional; photographs do not establish ingredients or current menu availability.

Research notes and image information

Researched on 30 September 2026 using operator websites and menus, Freiburg's official tourism listing for Berthas Bagels, and HappyCow for the former Katzentempel's closure listing. A complete current food menu for Huber and Berthas was not verified. Green Dabba's weekend lunch notice is distinguished from its homepage opening timetable.

This is desk research, not a claim of personal restaurant visits or tastings. Menus, hours and business status can change. Vegan food descriptions are not allergy or cross-contact guarantees.
