This guide compares five conventionally bookable hotels and wellness retreats in Rishikesh, Narendra Nagar and Dehradun. None is fully vegan, but several properties explicitly mention vegan food or individually tailored menus in their own information.

Dharmalaya near Bir is a worthwhile Himalayan addition, but it is not a sixth hotel: the fully vegan eco-campus hosts overnight guests only as part of registered programmes. It therefore appears separately after the five bookable properties.

STAY 01 · Ayurveda pick

Veda5 Ayurveda & Yoga Retreat

Veda5 sits above the Ganges on Neelkanth Road and combines accommodation with yoga, Ayurveda and Panchakarma. According to the retreat, its all-vegetarian meals are adapted to the recommendations of its Ayurvedic doctors.

All-vegetarian does not mean vegan, because Ayurvedic cooking frequently uses ghee, dairy products or honey. Ask for written confirmation of a fully plant-based meal plan before booking a programme.

  • All-vegetarian retreat kitchen
  • Individually tailored Ayurvedic meals
  • Yoga and Panchakarma programmes

STAY 02 · Best menu transparency

Six Senses Vana

Six Senses Vana is a comprehensive wellness retreat in Dehradun whose programmes include accommodation and meals. Its official dining page explicitly mentions vegan food and describes meals tailored to individual guests.

The resort is not entirely vegan: its kitchen also uses dairy products, cheese and ghee. Despite the useful menu transparency, record vegan requirements and questions about cross-contact in your personal programme profile before arrival.

  • Vegan food explicitly mentioned
  • Full board within the wellness programme
  • Local and seasonal sourcing

STAY 03 · Tailored dining

Ananda in the Himalayas

Ananda occupies a former maharaja’s estate above the Ganges and combines Ayurveda, yoga and wellness programmes. Its official dining information confirms that the kitchen accommodates vegan requests and individually tailored meals.

Because the restaurants also serve fish, poultry, dairy products and alcohol, this is a mixed kitchen. Coordinate vegan catering directly with the retreat; we could not verify a current Booking.com listing.

  • Vegan meals officially available
  • Tailored wellness cuisine
  • Direct booking with the retreat recommended

STAY 04 · Riverside pick

Aloha on the Ganges

Aloha on the Ganges is in Tapovan with river views, combining a resort stay, yoga and a convenient Rishikesh location. The property officially describes its restaurant as entirely vegetarian.

For a vegan stay, explicitly exclude milk, ghee, butter, yoghurt, paneer, cream and honey. With no robust property-specific evidence available, sustainability is not a primary reason for this selection.

  • All-vegetarian restaurant
  • Ganges-side location in Tapovan
  • Yoga and family stays

STAY 05 · Luxury by the Ganges

Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa

Taj Rishikesh Resort & Spa is near Singthali, away from the city centre in a wooded stretch beside the Ganges. Its regionally influenced design and peaceful setting make it a comfortable base for a slower stay in the foothills.

The hotel publishes no explicit vegan menu guarantee, and its restaurants use animal-derived ingredients. Confirm vegan full board, breakfast and separate preparation before making a non-refundable booking.

  • Quiet setting directly beside the Ganges
  • Regionally influenced architecture
  • Vegan meals only with prior confirmation

IMPORTANT ADDITION

Dharmalaya: a vegan campus, not a hotel

Dharmalaya Institute lies roughly six kilometres outside Bir in Himachal Pradesh, so it is not in the immediate Rishikesh area. The campus is relevant as a further stop in the western Himalayan foothills, but reaching it from Rishikesh requires a separate, longer journey.

The campus is fully vegan: its food and body-care policy excludes meat, fish, eggs, dairy products and honey. Natural construction with earth, bamboo and stone, organic cultivation, solar cooking, rainwater and greywater systems, and composting toilets are all part of its documented ecological approach.

Dharmalaya is not freely bookable accommodation. Overnight stays are reserved for registered participants in courses, retreats or volunteer programmes; personal retreats require an application, prior experience and usually a minimum stay of ten days. Day visits are by appointment only.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a fully vegan hotel in Rishikesh?

None of the five conventionally bookable properties is fully vegan. Dharmalaya is fully vegan, but it is a programme-bound campus near Bir, not a freely bookable hotel in Rishikesh.

Which property makes vegan catering easiest?

Six Senses Vana and Ananda explicitly mention vegan or individually tailored meals. Veda5 and Aloha provide a vegetarian base, but dairy products, ghee and honey still need to be excluded.

Can I book Dharmalaya like a hotel room?

No. Overnight stays are tied to registered programmes or approved personal retreats. Check eligibility, minimum-stay requirements and available dates directly with the institute.

Does Araiya Palampur belong in the Rishikesh guide?

Geographically, Araiya Palampur is not in Rishikesh. The existing profile appears here only as an onward-travel link because Palampur, like Dharmalaya near Bir, is in Himachal Pradesh and works as a separate Himalayan stop.

Verdict

Six Senses Vana and Ananda are the strongest conventionally bookable options for straightforward vegan menu planning. Veda5 and Aloha benefit from vegetarian kitchens, while the Taj stands out for its setting and comfort but requires a particularly careful advance enquiry.

Dharmalaya is the most consistently vegan choice, but it works only as a separate programme stay near Bir. Plan the campus and nearby Palampur as their own Himalayan stop rather than a spontaneous hotel excursion from Rishikesh.
