Portugal accommodation guide · evidence checked 6 September 2026
Lisbon has Portugal’s strongest independent vegan restaurant scene, yet hotel dining still ranges from a complete vegan menu to a single marked main. This guide retains Eco-lodge Villa Epicurea from our existing Portugal article and pairs it with five central Lisbon hotels whose current menus or property information provide a concrete plant-based starting point.
Quick comparison
Where to stay in Lisbon & the Lisbon Coast
Central Lisbon is best for a short city break and easy access to independent restaurants. Príncipe Real and Bairro Alto suit travellers who want to walk to dining and nightlife; Avenida da Liberdade is convenient for classic hotels and transport. Villa Epicurea sits south of the Tagus near Serra da Arrábida and works as a quiet coastal extension, not as a city-centre base.
The 6 checked stays
STAY 01 · Vegetarian and vegan meals
Eco-lodge Villa Epicurea
Villa Epicurea’s current official information says its meals are vegetarian or vegan, with breakfast served in the morning and lunch or dinner available by advance order. It is the strongest retained hotel from the existing Portugal guide and has a dedicated review on Vegan Lifestyle.
Clarify whether your chosen menu will be fully vegan, name any allergy requirements and reserve extra meals ahead. The lodge is a rural coastal stay, so transport and restaurant alternatives should be planned before arrival.
- Location: Sesimbra and Serra da Arrábida
- Vegan provision: Vegetarian and vegan meals
- Best for: Coastal eco retreat
- Before booking: request the exact vegan dishes and included meal times in writing.
Evidence check: This describes documented food provision, not a fully vegan property. Menus, staffing and seasonal services can change.
STAY 02 · Standalone vegan menu
Memmo Príncipe Real
The hotel’s published dining material includes a standalone vegan menu with several composed mains, including legume- and grain-based options. Current breakfast information also indicates that tofu, plant cheese and plant yoghurt can be arranged with advance notice.
This is stronger than a generic dietary-request promise, but menus still change. Ask for the current vegan menu and give at least 24 hours’ notice for breakfast so the required products are on site.
- Location: Príncipe Real, Lisbon
- Vegan provision: Standalone vegan menu
- Best for: Design hotel city break
- Before booking: request the exact vegan dishes and included meal times in writing.
Evidence check: This describes documented food provision, not a fully vegan property. Menus, staffing and seasonal services can change.
STAY 03 · Vegan menu and breakfast items
Bairro Alto Hotel
Current hotel dining material includes a separate vegan menu, while breakfast information lists plant milks and vegan items. The central location also gives guests a broad independent restaurant fallback within walking distance.
Check that the vegan menu is served at the restaurant and time you intend to use. For breakfast, ask which bread, spreads and hot savoury items are vegan rather than relying only on plant milk and fruit.
- Location: Bairro Alto, Lisbon
- Vegan provision: Vegan menu and breakfast items
- Best for: Luxury central location
- Before booking: request the exact vegan dishes and included meal times in writing.
Evidence check: This describes documented food provision, not a fully vegan property. Menus, staffing and seasonal services can change.
STAY 04 · Multiple marked vegan dishes
The Vintage Lisbon
A current menu review identifies four explicitly marked vegan dishes, including options built around chickpeas, peas and grains. This gives more useful dinner evidence than a general “special diets” statement, although breakfast was not equally documented.
Use the evidence for the current restaurant menu only. Ask the hotel separately for a complete vegan breakfast and confirm that the dishes remain on the menu during your dates.
- Location: Santo António, Lisbon
- Vegan provision: Multiple marked vegan dishes
- Best for: Spa and central sightseeing
- Before booking: request the exact vegan dishes and included meal times in writing.
Evidence check: This describes documented food provision, not a fully vegan property. Menus, staffing and seasonal services can change.
STAY 05 · One explicit vegan main
InterContinental Lisbon
The hotel’s AKLA menu currently identifies a vegan poke bowl with tofu and edamame. That is a credible protein-containing main, but it is only one documented dish and should not be treated as a broad vegan programme.
Ask whether the poke bowl is still available and request the current breakfast allergen information. For a longer stay, plan nearby restaurant alternatives instead of relying on one hotel dish every evening.
- Location: Marquês de Pombal, Lisbon
- Vegan provision: One explicit vegan main
- Best for: Business and classic luxury
- Before booking: request the exact vegan dishes and included meal times in writing.
Evidence check: This describes documented food provision, not a fully vegan property. Menus, staffing and seasonal services can change.
STAY 06 · Vegan-friendly breakfast on request
1908 Lisboa Hotel
The current Small Portuguese Hotels overview states that the on-site Infame restaurant serves vegan and vegetarian dishes and that additional vegan-friendly breakfast choices can be prepared when requested during booking.
This is request-based breakfast evidence. Add the vegan requirement to the reservation, ask what the hot breakfast option will be and reconfirm shortly before arrival.
- Location: Intendente, Lisbon
- Vegan provision: Vegan-friendly breakfast on request
- Best for: Boutique value and local atmosphere
- Before booking: request the exact vegan dishes and included meal times in writing.
Evidence check: This describes documented food provision, not a fully vegan property. Menus, staffing and seasonal services can change.
How to book a genuinely vegan stay
Before you pay
Lisbon makes it easy to eat away from the hotel, but breakfast still deserves a written check. Ask for plant milk, dairy- and egg-free bread, a savoury protein and vegan spreads. For Villa Epicurea, arrange lunch or dinner before arrival because meals are prepared to order rather than run as a conventional all-day restaurant.
- Name every meal included in the rate.
- Ask for two example vegan dishes, not a yes/no answer.
- Keep the written reply with your reservation.
- Reconfirm one week before arrival.
Use the evidence correctly
“Vegan breakfast listed” supports breakfast only. “Available on request” needs advance contact. A vegetarian menu may still contain dairy, egg or honey. For serious allergies, ask about separate cookware and preparation surfaces.

Frequently asked questions
Are there fully vegan hotels in Lisbon & the Lisbon Coast?
We did not verify a fully vegan conventional hotel across this shortlist. Some retreats or restaurants are plant-based, while the accommodation itself may also serve animal products. Use the evidence badges and reconfirm every included meal.
Which stay in Lisbon & the Lisbon Coast has the clearest vegan evidence?
Prioritise a property with a dedicated vegan menu, a 100% plant-based on-site restaurant or explicitly listed vegan breakfast. Request-based entries can still work well, but only after the hotel confirms concrete dishes for your dates.
What should I ask before booking?
Ask which daily dishes are vegan; whether bread, spreads, plant milk and a protein-rich main are included; whether butter, egg, dairy, honey or animal stock are used; and whether separate preparation is possible for allergies.
Are the Booking.com buttons affiliate links?
Yes. A qualifying reservation may earn Vegan Lifestyle a commission at no additional cost to you. The evidence link remains separate and points to the hotel, menu or listing used for the food check.
