Kerala is renowned for Ayurveda, yoga and nature-focused retreats. Truly vegan accommodation remains rare, however: some properties run an entirely plant-based kitchen, while others offer vegan menus alongside vegetarian or mixed dining.
This guide compares exactly six currently available retreats and hotels, ranging from a committed vegan eco stay in the forest to a classic beach resort. The notes on ghee, dairy, honey, treatment products and mixed kitchens matter, because a vegan menu does not automatically make the whole stay vegan.

6 places to stay at a glance
Lumŭma Yoga Village
- Location
- Varkala, southern Kerala
- Type
- Yoga, Ayurveda and eco retreat
- Vegan provision
- Very strong for food: Lumŭma describes its café as 100% vegan and the stay as including vegan full board.
- Sustainability
- Natural materials, coir mattresses and a chemical-free UV pool; according to the property, however, cow dung is also used in the mud huts.
- Best for
- For yoga, plant-based full board and a sociable retreat atmosphere near Varkala.
Indhrivanam
- Location
- Kumily near Thekkady, Western Ghats
- Type
- Private eco stay with one stone cottage
- Vegan provision
- Very strong: the hosts explicitly describe the food they serve as vegan; breakfast and dinner are available, but lunch is not.
- Sustainability
- Locally sourced hand-worked stone, minimal concrete and chemicals, rainwater use and dry toilets on a private forest property.
- Best for
- For two adults seeking quiet, forest surroundings and a tiny, committed vegan stay.
Veda5 Ayurveda Living Village
- Location
- Kaipamangalam Beach near Thrissur
- Type
- Ayurveda, Panchakarma and yoga retreat
- Vegan provision
- Strong, but confirmation is essential: Veda5 promotes organic vegan cuisine in its own content; treatment products and the specific programme menu should be checked in writing.
- Sustainability
- The retreat highlights natural, organic food and an Ayur Gold accreditation; this guide does not infer any blanket independent sustainability certification.
- Best for
- For an Ayurveda or Panchakarma stay on the coast with vegan food that can be arranged in advance.
The Nattika Beach Ayurveda Resort
- Location
- Nattika Beach near Thrissur
- Type
- Beachfront Ayurveda resort with villas
- Vegan provision
- Good with advance notice: the cuisine is Ayurvedic vegetarian and, according to the resort, caters for vegan dietary requirements, but it is not entirely vegan.
- Sustainability
- Glass bottles instead of single-use plastic, rice straws, an organic garden, local sourcing, water treatment and two biogas plants are specifically documented.
- Best for
- For longer Ayurveda programmes at a spacious, peaceful beach resort.
Prakriti Shakti
- Location
- Panchalimedu, Idukki district
- Type
- Clinical naturopathy and yoga retreat
- Vegan provision
- Reasonably easy to plan, but not guaranteed across the board: the kitchen specialises in uncooked raw food, yet there is no comprehensive official vegan pledge covering meals, therapies and toiletries.
- Sustainability
- Fresh ingredients from organic cultivation and, wherever possible, local farms are central to its raw-food kitchen.
- Best for
- For structured naturopathy programmes, raw food and a medically supervised mountain retreat.
Neeleshwar Hermitage
- Location
- Nileshwar on the Malabar Coast, northern Kerala
- Type
- Boutique beach retreat with Ayurveda and yoga
- Vegan provision
- Good when ordered in advance: the hotel lists a vegan menu, but it also operates a fish restaurant alongside the mainly vegetarian Annapurna and therefore has a mixed kitchen.
- Sustainability
- Local employment and sourcing, avoiding single-use plastic, treating and reusing wastewater, and natural ventilation in the restaurant are documented.
- Best for
- For a comfortable beach stay in northern Kerala with Ayurveda, yoga and food that can be adapted for vegans.
STAY 01 · Clearest vegan dining
Lumŭma Yoga Village
Lumŭma combines naturally built cottages with yoga, Ayurveda and explicitly plant-based food. Its official stay page states that the café is 100% vegan and that vegan full board is included, making the dining offer particularly transparent.
That vegan claim does not extend to every material: the property lists cow dung alongside clay and other natural materials used for walls and floors. Travellers wishing to avoid animal-derived materials in construction, toiletries or Ayurveda treatments should clarify each point in writing before booking.
- Officially 100% vegan café
- Vegan full board plus yoga and Ayurveda
- Nature-focused cottages and UV pool
STAY 02 · Vegan eco hideaway
Indhrivanam
Indhrivanam is not a resort but a single detached stone cottage in private forest near Kumily. It accommodates no more than two adults, does not accept children and, according to its own website, requires a minimum stay of three nights.
The food is described as vegan, but it covers breakfast and dinner only and costs extra. Dry toilets, rainwater use, rescued dogs and limited accessibility are all part of this deliberately low-impact but fairly rustic concept.
- Explicitly vegan food
- Just one cottage for up to two adults
- Rainwater system and dry toilet
STAY 03 · Beachfront Ayurveda
Veda5 Ayurveda Living Village
Veda5 Ayurveda Living Village sits on Kaipamangalam Beach and combines Ayurveda, Panchakarma, naturopathy and yoga. Its own information pages mention organic vegan cuisine, and the property can also be found on Booking.com.
For Ayurveda, vegan requirements extend beyond the plate. Ghee, dairy, honey or other animal-derived ingredients may appear in prescribed meals, oils or preparations. The kitchen and treatments should therefore be confirmed separately before committing to a programme.
- Beachfront Ayurveda and Panchakarma
- Vegan cuisine mentioned in the retreat’s own material
- Available through Booking.com or direct enquiry
STAY 04 · Documented sustainability
The Nattika Beach Ayurveda Resort
The Nattika occupies roughly 6.5 hectares of coconut grove by the beach and has 52 villas. Its full-board cuisine is vegetarian and Ayurvedic; the resort states that vegan and other special diets can be accommodated.
Stays are treatment-focused: the resort specifies a minimum of seven nights for Rejuvenation and 14 nights for Panchakarma, and it does not accept children under 12. A vegan reservation should explicitly exclude ghee, milk, yoghurt, paneer and honey.
- Vegan dietary requirements officially accommodated
- Specific plastic, water and biogas measures
- Direct reservation with the resort
STAY 05 · Raw food and naturopathy
Prakriti Shakti
Prakriti Shakti presents itself as a naturopathy and yoga clinic rather than a conventional wellness hotel. Its programmes combine diagnostics and exercise with an uncooked raw-food kitchen using fresh, organic and preferably local ingredients.
The property bans non-vegetarian and outside food and states that ghee is not used in treatments. It does not, however, publish a comprehensive vegan guarantee; honey, dairy ingredients, preparations and cosmetics should be explicitly ruled out during the medical consultation.
- Uncooked raw-food cuisine
- Medically supervised naturopathy and yoga
- Programmes coordinated directly with the medical team
STAY 06 · Boutique beach hotel
Neeleshwar Hermitage
Neeleshwar Hermitage is the most conventional hotel in this selection. Its official website explicitly lists an Ayurveda and vegan menu; the open-air Annapurna restaurant specialises in predominantly vegetarian food and can adapt diets to suit yoga or Ayurveda stays.
The property is not fully vegan: its beachfront Meenakshi restaurant serves freshly caught fish. Vegan meals, separate preparation and animal-free Ayurveda treatments should therefore be agreed in advance.
- Vegan menu officially listed
- Ayurveda, yoga and a peaceful beach setting
- Mixed kitchen with a separate fish restaurant
IMPORTANT ADDITION
ERANDIA MARARI: a former vegan pick with unconfirmed status
ERANDIA MARARI was known as a small Ayurveda resort on Marari Beach and a particularly vegan-friendly place to stay. The existing profile therefore remains linked as historical context.
However, our check on 2 September 2026 could not confirm that the property is currently operating or reliably bookable. VeganWelcome no longer lists it in its hotel selection, and older travel-platform listings are not sufficient proof that it remains open.
ERANDIA is therefore deliberately excluded from the six current recommendations and has no booking call to action. Do not plan a trip until the property itself has confirmed its operating status, dates and vegan services in writing.
Frequently asked questions
Which stay in Kerala is the most consistently vegan?
For food, Lumŭma and Indhrivanam are the clearest choices: both explicitly describe their food as vegan. That still does not automatically mean that their buildings, toiletries and Ayurveda treatments are entirely free from animal-derived materials.
Which retreats and hotels can be booked on Booking.com?
At the time of checking, Lumŭma Yoga Village, Indhrivanam, Veda5 Ayurveda Living Village and Neeleshwar Hermitage were listed on Booking.com. The Nattika and Prakriti Shakti are better contacted directly because their stays are structured around treatments or programmes.
Is a vegetarian Ayurveda retreat automatically vegan?
No. Ayurvedic meals and treatments may contain ghee, milk, yoghurt, paneer, honey or animal-derived ingredients in preparations. Vegan food and vegan treatments should therefore be confirmed separately and in writing.
Can ERANDIA MARARI currently be booked?
We could not verify reliable current booking availability on the date checked. ERANDIA therefore appears only as a historical note without a booking link and is not one of the six current recommendations.
Verdict
Lumŭma and tiny Indhrivanam are the strongest options for the clearest plant-based dining. Veda5, The Nattika and Prakriti Shakti suit structured Ayurveda or naturopathy programmes, but require careful coordination of both food and treatments.
Neeleshwar Hermitage offers the most comfortable conventional hotel stay, although it has a mixed kitchen. Whichever property you choose, clarify ghee, dairy, egg, honey, treatment products and cross-contact in writing before making a non-refundable booking.
