Greece city and nearby beach guide · reviewed 10 September 2026
Looking for vegan hotels in Heraklion? First decide whether you want a city address or a beach resort nearby. This guide compares Lato Boutique Hotel in central Heraklion with Apollonia Beach Resort & Spa and Agapi Beach in Amoudara. Apollonia is retained from our existing Greece overview. All three serve mixed diets; the vegan evidence concerns a dedicated restaurant, a seasonal dining venue or buffet choices.
Heraklion city or Amoudara beach?
Compare Apollonia for its exclusively plant-based Avocado restaurant, Agapi Beach for published vegan options at the main buffet, and Lato for a central city stay with vegan choices at Brillant. Seasonal distinction: Lato lists Brillant for November–March, so its vegan statement must not be treated as a confirmed summer restaurant offer. [H1] [H3] [H5]

Quick comparison: city and beach stays
Choose the base before the board arrangement
Central Heraklion: Lato
Lato is at 15 Epimenidou Street, with accommodation in the main hotel and an annex. Specify which building and room category you are considering. For a city-led trip, the historic centre, Venetian harbour and museums form a different starting point from a beachfront resort. [H4] [H7]
Amoudara: Apollonia and Agapi Beach
The two resorts provide beach-based alternatives near Heraklion. Use their exact addresses for transfers and outings, rather than assuming a hotel described as “Heraklion” is beside the old harbour. For a mostly on-site holiday, the full daily food service matters more than one suitable evening restaurant. [H2] [H6]
Three vegan-friendly hotels in and near Heraklion
Stay 01 · From our existing Greece guide
Apollonia Beach Resort & Spa
Location: Amoudara, Gazi, wider Heraklion area
Best fit: a beach stay with a dedicated vegan dinner venue
Apollonia remains in this collection because its own website identifies Avocado as a restaurant where all dishes are plant-based. This is a specific vegan venue inside a conventional resort, not evidence that the hotel's entire buffet or every meal is vegan. The resort's other restaurants have different menus. [H1]
The published conditions are important: Avocado requires a reservation at least three days ahead, and dinner is included once for all-inclusive guests. Opening arrangements can depend on the season and other operating restrictions. Do not read “all-inclusive” as unlimited access to Avocado every evening. [H1]
For a week-long holiday, request a complete plan covering breakfast, lunch, snacks and the remaining dinners. Confirm any extra restaurant visits and their charges before committing. The beach location makes this a different choice from Lato's city address; decide how often you expect to travel into Heraklion. [H2]

Stay 02 · Seasonal restaurant evidence
Lato Boutique Hotel
Location: 15 Epimenidou Street, central Heraklion
Best fit: a city stay with carefully checked seasonal dining
Lato's official dining page explicitly lists vegan options at Brillant, its ground-floor restaurant. The same page gives Brillant's operating period as November–March. That season is a material part of the recommendation: it is not evidence of an available summer dinner at the hotel. [H3]
The rooftop Herbs' Garden is listed for April–October, but its description mentions vegetarian choices rather than an explicit vegan offer. We do not convert that wording into a vegan claim. Travelling outside Brillant's published season requires a fresh, specific confirmation of suitable food at an operating venue. Breakfast in Aroma also needs separate checking. [H3]
For the accommodation itself, compare the main building and annex and read the exact room-view description. Lato's central position offers a city-hotel alternative to the Amoudara resorts, without requiring that you buy a comprehensive on-site meal package. Our food-based reason to include it is narrow and clearly seasonal, not a guarantee of identical dining throughout the year. [H4]
Stay 03 · Main-buffet vegan options
Agapi Beach Resort
Location: Amoudara, Gazi, near Heraklion
Best fit: travellers comparing a resort's daily buffet service
Agapi Beach lists vegan options on its official Mediterraneo main-restaurant page. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, but the dietary statement does not give a detailed vegan menu for every sitting. Ask what a complete day of suitable meals will contain rather than assuming the same selection at each service. [H5]
The published restaurant offer includes mixed diets. Vegan, gluten-free and lactose-free are separate categories; a dish can meet one requirement without meeting the others. Check a substantial breakfast, main dishes and snacks, and ask how plant-based choices are identified at the buffet.
The resort offers different accommodation types, including rooms and bungalows, in its Amoudara beach setting. Compare the actual unit and its location within the property as well as the board arrangement. Other dining venues may have separate reservation or access conditions. This is the resort-buffet alternative to Apollonia's particular vegan restaurant, not a promise of wholly vegan hospitality. [H6]
Compare a whole day of food
Restaurant access is not a meal plan
At Apollonia, clarify the dinners beyond the included Avocado visit. At Lato, start with your travel season and the restaurant that will actually operate. At Agapi, request examples for each buffet meal and any food needed between services.
Then compare the room, cancellation terms, transport and likely supplements. A suitable dinner alone does not establish whether a longer stay will work for you.
A pre-booking message
“We need vegan meals without meat, fish, dairy, eggs or honey. Which restaurants will operate during our dates? Please describe breakfast, lunch and dinner, explain what our rate includes, and confirm reservation deadlines, visit limits and additional charges.”
Plan city sightseeing and beach time separately
Heraklion's old harbour and Koules Fortress can anchor a city outing, while the Archaeological Museum and Knossos provide a different sightseeing focus. Discover Greece presents these as key parts of the destination. Check access and opening information for your dates rather than relying on an undated itinerary. [H7]
For an Amoudara stay, group city plans rather than repeatedly travelling back for every meal. For a central Lato stay, decide which meals you want at the hotel and which near your activities. These are editorial planning suggestions, not verified transfer schedules or promises of packed meals.
Heraklion vegan hotel FAQs
Are all three hotels in Heraklion city centre?
No. Lato is central, while Apollonia and Agapi Beach are in Amoudara in the wider Heraklion area. Use the exact hotel address when planning arrival and sightseeing.
Which property comes from the original Greece article?
Apollonia Beach Resort & Spa. It is retained here with current information on its Avocado vegan restaurant and clearly identified as an Amoudara beach resort.
Does Apollonia's all-inclusive rate include unlimited Avocado dinners?
The published restaurant conditions state that dinner is included once and require booking at least three days in advance. Confirm the conditions for your reservation and the cost of extra visits. [H1]
Can I rely on Lato's Brillant restaurant in summer?
Not from the published schedule: Lato lists Brillant for November–March. The summer rooftop's vegetarian description is not sufficient proof of vegan dining. Obtain a current confirmation for your dates. [H3]
Is Agapi Beach's entire buffet vegan?
No. Its main restaurant publishes vegan options within a mixed food service. Ask which dishes are suitable at each meal and whether snacks and other venues can also accommodate you. [H5]
Do I need a fully vegan hotel to have a workable stay?
A conventional hotel can work when the meals, service times and ingredients are clear and suitable. Decide how much flexibility you need, then obtain a concrete food arrangement instead of relying only on a dietary label.
