The starting point

Where should you stay in Albania as a vegan?

For a food-led countryside stay, our first enquiry would be The House in the Village. For a conventional hotel, start by comparing Villa Castriota. Tirana Backpacker Hostel adds a meat-free city base, while GrandView is a Berat option supported by a detailed vegan guest report. The evidence behind each choice is explained below. [2] [5] [7] [8]

This is a focused selection of vegan-friendly hotels and other accommodation in Albania, not a list padded with properties that merely have fruit at breakfast.

No whole-property vegan certification is claimed here. Vegetarian premises can still use dairy or eggs. A positive guest experience does not guarantee the same menu today. The badges distinguish those situations instead of treating them as interchangeable.

Four places, four different stays

Find the right setting for your trip

Every card opens the full accommodation section further down this page. Start with the place that fits your holiday, then read the food evidence before choosing a room.

The detailed sections cite the basis for each card. The hero photograph shows Berat, not one of these properties or a guaranteed room view.

Booking information: all four selected properties have identifiable Booking.com listings, including the independent guesthouse and hostel. The buttons use affiliate links; a qualifying reservation may earn Vegan Lifestyle a commission at no extra cost to you. No dates, room types or meal packages are preselected.

A meat-free place to slow down

The House in the Village

This is the countryside option to investigate when eating well and sharing a relaxed setting matter more to you than a conventional hotel room.

The guesthouse is in Pëllumbas, outside central Tirana. Its operator describes vegetarian/vegan premises where meat is not allowed. Accommodation descriptions include rustic cabins, dormitory beds and camping; check which format your chosen listing actually offers. [1] [3]

Why the vegan-food evidence stands out

HappyCow guests reported vegan breakfasts and dinners in 2024 and 2025. A June 2025 guest described vegetarian meals easily made vegan by omitting cheese; a September 2025 reviewer praised the vegan breakfast options and dinner. These are concrete guest experiences, not evidence that every dish is automatically vegan. [2]

Pitchup also describes vegan evening meals and simple facilities in a garden setting. Its page is useful for understanding the accommodation, but it does not currently accept reservations there. Use the matched Booking.com listing below and confirm the sleeping arrangement with the host. [3]

Our suggestion is to agree your first dinner before arrival, then leave time the following day to enjoy the property rather than immediately moving on. For several nights, ask how the meals vary and whether breakfast, dinner or both are included. Discuss any access needs before booking a cabin or camping stay.

Ask before booking: “Which room or cabin am I reserving, are bathroom facilities shared, and can breakfast and dinner be prepared without dairy, eggs or honey throughout my stay?”

The listing may use Tirana as the broader destination. Match the Pëllumbas property, not a city-centre address.

A vegetarian city base

Tirana Backpacker Hostel

Not every useful vegan-friendly stay is a hotel. This hostel earns its place through its meat-free approach, rather than through a generic breakfast filter.

The operator lists private single and double rooms alongside dormitories, shared showers and toilets, a guest kitchen and a garden. The address is Rruga e Bogdanëve 3. Private-room travellers should check the exact category rather than assuming an en-suite hotel setup. [4]

The property describes itself as vegetarian and asks guests not to bring or cook meat. Its own website advertises breakfast and a vegetarian evening meal. That is a useful house policy, but it does not remove the need to specify vegan food. [4] [5]

What a vegan guest actually reported

A HappyCow review dated 22 February 2025 describes a welcoming atmosphere and a largely vegan breakfast. The reviewer did not try dinner, so we do not treat that account as a first-hand dinner recommendation. Confirm the evening menu separately. [6]

Compare this option when the chance to meet other travellers and prepare some food yourself is part of the appeal. For a couple, a private room may offer a compromise between personal sleeping space and a shared-house atmosphere. Choose a conventional hotel instead when private bathrooms or a quieter, service-led stay matter more.

Ask before booking: request a complete vegan breakfast, the ingredients in that evening's meal and the bathroom arrangement for your room. Check whether a late arrival affects dinner.

A private-room option does not make this a conventional hotel; shared facilities remain part of the comparison.

The hotel-led alternative

Villa Castriota

Prefer a hotel to a hostel or rustic guesthouse? This is our first hotel enquiry in the collection because the operator addresses both breakfast and restaurant meals.

Villa Castriota is a family-run, 12-room property near Krujë's castle and bazaar. Its room descriptions include private bathrooms and air conditioning. Castle views belong to particular categories, so compare the actual room rather than extending the best-view photograph to every booking. [7]

What the hotel explicitly offers

The official website states that vegan breakfast alternatives are available on request. It separately makes the same provision for restaurant dining. The standard food offer is mixed, and no complete itemised vegan menu was established in this research. [7]

We would use that statement to start a specific conversation rather than wait until check-in. Request a breakfast main, suitable bread and spreads, a drink, and an evening meal. Ask for enough detail to compare the proposal with the food you would expect to buy elsewhere.

For a short stay, reserve one agreed dinner and keep another evening flexible. For a longer visit, ask for several alternatives so your meals are not reduced to the same adaptation each day. Confirm how any dietary preparation is charged under the room rate you select.

Ask before booking: “Please suggest a full vegan breakfast and dinner for our dates, including sauces and accompaniments. Which items require advance notice, and what is included in the quoted rate?”

The vegan request needs to be agreed with the hotel; selecting a breakfast-inclusive rate is not the same as making that arrangement.

A detailed vegan guest experience

GrandView Hotel

This Berat hotel is a more conditional choice: the reason to investigate it is a specific account of thoughtful vegan catering, not a published all-vegan menu.

Match the property on Rruga Nikolla Buhuri in Berat. A HappyCow review dated 26 July 2025 describes a three-night stay arranged with a vegan request beforehand. The guest reports soy milk, avocado and suitable breakfast accompaniments, followed by vegan spinach burek on the third morning. [8]

Promising hospitality, not a standing menu guarantee

The report suggests staff made an effort beyond simply removing animal products from a plate. It remains one guest's experience from 2025. We have not obtained a fresh kitchen confirmation or verified the same dishes for a future stay. [8]

Our suggestion is to ask the hotel for a current breakfast proposal before choosing a non-refundable rate. Name the plant milk you prefer and request a substantial savoury option as well as fruit. A reply describing what the kitchen will prepare is more useful than a broad statement about accommodating diets.

Plan lunch and dinner separately until you know what is offered. A good breakfast experience should not be turned into an unsupported promise about every meal. For an early departure, discuss the serving time while you are confirming the room.

Ask before booking: can the hotel provide a complete vegan breakfast on every morning of your stay, and what would it include today? Keep the written reply with your reservation.

Evidence level: dated first-hand guest report. Current meal provision must be reconfirmed.

Build a stay, not a checklist

Three ways to use this Albania guide

These are editorial trip ideas, not transport itineraries, confirmed tours or hotel packages. Choose fewer stops when that gives you more time to enjoy each one.

01 · City and countryside

Tirana + Pëllumbas

Compare a city stay with a quieter guesthouse break. Agree the countryside arrival and first dinner together, rather than relying on a late, unplanned food search.

Start with the guesthouse →
02 · A hotel-based break

Krujë + Berat

Prefer conventional hotel accommodation? Compare the two hotel profiles and their different evidence levels. Allow for transfers and confirm breakfast before fixing your sightseeing days.

Compare the first hotel →
03 · Stay somewhere longer

One base, flexible days

There is no need to book all four. Choose the setting you like, agree a varied food plan and leave space for relaxed mornings instead of changing accommodation every night.

Understand the difference

From vegan-friendly to a meal you can rely on

Meat-free premises

A vegetarian house rule is a meaningful starting point. Dairy, eggs and honey still need their own check; vegetarian and vegan are not synonyms.

Operator-stated vegan options

The business explicitly offers vegan food or an adaptation. Agree the actual dishes, the amount of notice and any charges for your booking.

Guest-reported vegan meals

A dated review describes what someone received. It can identify helpful hospitality, but it cannot guarantee today's kitchen or your future meal.

We eat vegan, without meat, fish, dairy, eggs, honey or animal stock. Please describe a complete breakfast and any dinners available for our dates. Could you confirm the bread, pastry, sauces, cooking fat and a plant-based drink? What needs ordering in advance, when is it served, and what is included in our room rate?

Compare the complete arrangement: the room, the food you will actually receive, cancellation conditions and arrival logistics. Discuss allergies separately; a vegan request is not an allergy-safety agreement.

Independent places are part of the search. A property does not need to be on Booking.com to qualify for this collection. For the four selected here, a matching listing was found, so Booking.com remains the main booking route. A listing does not reserve a vegan menu.

Frequently asked questions

Planning a vegan-friendly stay in Albania

Are these fully vegan hotels?

No. The evidence supports vegetarian premises with vegan provision, request-based vegan meals or a dated guest experience. No whole-property vegan certification was verified for this shortlist.

Why are a guesthouse and a hostel included?

Food policy and actual vegan experiences matter more here than the accommodation label. The profiles make the format clear so you can choose between a simple shared setting and a conventional hotel.

Which place would you investigate first for a food-led stay?

Our first enquiry would be The House in the Village. Compare its guesthouse format with your comfort requirements, then confirm the complete meals for your dates. This is an editorial starting point, not a guarantee.

Can I stay in a private room rather than a dorm?

The hostel operator lists private single and double rooms, while the two hotel profiles offer a different accommodation format. Check the specific listing and bathroom arrangements before booking. [4] [7]

Does the guide include places outside Booking.com?

The research was not limited to that platform. Matching Booking.com listings were found for all four selected properties, so no direct-only booking option needed to be added to this edition.

Does breakfast included mean a vegan breakfast is agreed?

No. Confirm the actual dishes, serving arrangements and any supplement with the accommodation. Keep that answer with the reservation rather than relying only on the rate name.

Compare the four accommodation profiles, choose the setting that suits you and agree the meals before you book.

Research notes, sources and image credit

Research checked 18 September 2026. This is desk research, not our own hotel inspection or a record of meal agreements with the kitchens. Guest-review dates are kept separate from the date this guide was compiled. The shortlist is selective, not an exhaustive directory of Albania or a popularity ranking.

Sources are identified below. The main booking buttons lead to matched property listings, not hotel-name searches. Property identity was checked using indexed Booking.com pages; the platform's live pages required JavaScript. Live inventory, prices, checkout and affiliate attribution were not tested.
