Find your next vegan meal in San Diego
A breakfast burrito before the beach, a North Park pizza evening or a South Park weekend brunch: build a food day around the part of San Diego you actually plan to explore.
This guide to vegan restaurants in San Diego, California covers six businesses at five addresses. Donna Jean and Evolution now share the El Cajon Boulevard address. Most selections offer vegan menus; Plumeria is vegetarian and needs dish-level checks.

Donna Jean
North Park · El Cajon Boulevard
Donna Jean is the sit-down pizza-and-comfort-food choice in this selection. Its vegan brunch moves beyond a token side dish: the published menu includes buckwheat chocolate-chip pancakes, tofu scramble and chicken-fried oyster mushrooms. For an evening visit, use the separate San Diego dinner menu rather than assuming every brunch dish runs all day.
Before you orderSave the current North Park address, not an older Fifth Avenue listing. The restaurant shares its address with Evolution, but the two menus and service schedules are different. Check the nut and soy notes on individual dishes and request allergy advice separately.
Highlights: Sweet and savory weekend brunch, plant-based pizzas and a dedicated dinner service.
| Vegan status | 100% plant-based restaurant, confirmed by the operator. |
|---|---|
| Address | 2611 El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92104 |
| Published hours | Dinner Wednesday–Monday 5–9pm; closed Tuesday. Brunch Saturday–Sunday 11am–3pm. |
| Plan ahead | Reservations are recommended; walk-in seating depends on availability. |
KINDRED
South Park · 30th Street
KINDRED is a place to sit down for a meal rather than arrange a takeaway stop. Its operator-linked reservation profile describes vegan cooking, while the official service page sets out a particularly useful distinction: the venue stays open later than its kitchen. Weekend brunch specials start with the late-morning opening and run alongside the full menu.
Before you orderCheck the current menu through the official Menu link; the linked PDF could not be inspected in this research session, so specific dishes are not promised here. Seating is mainly walk-in with some reservations. The restaurant does not offer takeout or third-party delivery.
Highlights: A South Park dinner option and a weekend brunch alternative to North Park.
| Vegan status | Vegan menu described in the restaurant’s linked booking profile. |
|---|---|
| Address | 1503 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92102 |
| Published hours | Monday–Thursday 5–10pm; Friday 5pm–midnight; Saturday 11:30am–midnight; Sunday 11:30am–10pm. |

Tacotarian — North Park
North Park · 30th Street
Tacotarian gives a taco-focused food day a clear starting point. The San Diego branch describes an entirely plant-based menu, including jackfruit birria and seitan al pastor. These are deliberate vegan fillings, not conventional meat tacos with the main ingredient removed. A small selection of tacos also makes it easier to compare flavors without committing to one large main.
Before you orderChoose the San Diego location when viewing availability or placing an order. The branch’s published opening time is 11am; this guide does not treat a chain-wide brunch offering as proof of local early-breakfast service. Ask about wheat-based seitan and sauces when managing an allergy.
Highlights: Jackfruit and seitan taco fillings, vegan elote and a branch-specific ordering page.
| Vegan status | The local operator page states that every menu item is plant-based. |
|---|---|
| Address | 4332 30th Street, San Diego, CA 92104 |
| Published hours | Daily 11am–9pm. |
| Arrival | The operator lists a parking lot behind the restaurant; check availability on arrival. |
Plant Power Fast Food — Ocean Beach
Ocean Beach · Sunset Cliffs Boulevard
For an earlier coastal-side meal, start with the Ocean Beach branch of Plant Power. Its breakfast menu includes plant-based sausage, egg and cheese muffins, plus breakfast burritos. Later options include burgers, chicken-style sandwiches and oat-based shakes. The familiar fast-food format makes this a different sort of stop from a reserved weekend brunch.
Before you orderSelect Ocean Beach, not another San Diego-area branch. Breakfast has its own noon cutoff. The location is cashless, so bring a suitable payment method. The operator warns that its kitchens handle several common allergens; vegan ingredients do not mean a separate allergy-safe kitchen.
Highlights: An 8am opening, savory breakfast choices and an all-plant-based fast-food menu.
| Vegan status | 100% plant-based menu. |
|---|---|
| Address | 2204 Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92107 |
| Published hours | Daily 8am–10pm. |
| Breakfast service | Ocean Beach breakfast: 8am–noon, according to the location listing. Check day-of availability. |
Evolution Fast Food
North Park · inside Donna Jean
Evolution’s current home is inside Donna Jean on El Cajon Boulevard. It remains a separate vegan fast-food business, with its own menu and food-service hours. Compare it with Donna Jean for a casual burger, wrap or shake rather than counting the shared address as two different parts of the city to visit.
Before you orderUse the new address shown here. The website also advertises a separate early drive-up coffee schedule; that is not evidence that the full food menu starts at 6am. Food service begins at 11am, and Tuesday is a food-service closure.
Highlights: A fully vegan casual-food alternative at the same address as Donna Jean.
| Vegan status | 100% vegan, according to the operator. |
|---|---|
| Address | 2611 El Cajon Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92104 |
| Published hours | Food service Wednesday–Monday 11am–7pm; closed Tuesday. |
| Address check | Inside Donna Jean. Separate businesses and menus, one shared street address; not the older Fifth Avenue location. |
Plumeria — University Heights
University Heights · Park Boulevard
Plumeria’s menu identifies vegan dishes separately from vegetarian ones. Tofu, vegetable dishes and plant-based proteins offer a Thai-food alternative to the guide’s pizza and burger stops. However, cheesy wontons contain dairy, and the standard appetizer sampler includes them.
How to order veganUse the vegan labels. For the sampler, the menu explicitly allows the cheesy wontons to be replaced with samosas. Confirm desserts, sauces and any additions separately.
Highlights: Thai cooking with a clear vegan key and a specific sampler modification.
| Vegan status | Vegetarian with clearly marked vegan choices; not fully vegan. |
|---|---|
| Address | 4661 Park Boulevard, San Diego, CA 92116 |
| Published hours | Monday–Thursday 11:30am–3pm and 4:30–9pm; Saturday 11:30am–10pm; Sunday 11:30am–9pm. See note for Friday. |
| Friday & branch check | Friday lunch is listed as 11:30am–3pm and dinner ends at 10pm, but the website’s dinner start is mistyped. Confirm directly. This is University Heights, not Encinitas. |
Vegan breakfast & brunch in San Diego
The most useful distinction is timing: a weekday breakfast before sightseeing and a leisurely weekend brunch need different plans. Do not assume that an 11am lunch opening means breakfast is available.
Earlier start in Ocean Beach
Plant Power publishes an 8am opening and breakfast until noon. Choose this for a muffin or burrito rather than waiting for the later sit-down brunch services.
Weekend brunch in North Park
Donna Jean serves brunch from 11am to 3pm on Saturday and Sunday. Its dedicated menu offers both pancakes and savory mushroom or tofu plates.
Later brunch in South Park
KINDRED adds weekend brunch specials from 11:30am. Confirm the current selection and finish time; a late venue closing does not mean brunch runs until the evening.
Coffee is not a full breakfast
Evolution advertises an early coffee service separately. Keep its 11am food opening distinct when planning a breakfast stop.
At any venue, check the full order—drink, spread, garnish and side—not just the main dish. Discuss allergies separately from a request for vegan ingredients.
Plan your San Diego food stops
Use these as meal-planning ideas, not timed routes. Check your starting point, the exact branch and the current service window before setting out.
Choose one area for your first meal
Anchor a coast-focused day in Ocean Beach, or compare the North Park and University Heights profiles for an inland food stop. Check your actual route rather than assuming every San Diego address is a short transfer.
Save the new address
Donna Jean and Evolution both publish 2611 El Cajon Boulevard. Their shared location is intentional in this guide. Confirm the business name and service you need before relying on an older saved map pin.
Check service, not only closing time
KINDRED’s kitchen closes before the venue. Donna Jean’s brunch and dinner are separate services. A meal-period label is more useful than treating opening hours as a guarantee that every dish is available.
Keep costs and availability current
Use the live branch menu for your budget. Extras, drinks, tax and any service charges affect the final total. No guide can guarantee a table, a parking space or a particular daily special.

San Diego vegan dining FAQ
Are all the restaurants in this guide fully vegan?
No. Donna Jean, Tacotarian, Plant Power and Evolution explicitly describe entirely plant-based or vegan menus. KINDRED’s linked dining profile describes vegan cooking. Plumeria is vegetarian with vegan labels and some dairy-containing dishes.
Where can I get an earlier vegan breakfast?
The Ocean Beach Plant Power branch opens at 8am and lists breakfast until noon. Donna Jean and KINDRED are later weekend brunch choices; use the breakfast section to compare them.
Why do Donna Jean and Evolution have the same address?
Their current operator websites place both businesses at 2611 El Cajon Boulevard. Evolution is inside Donna Jean, but has its own food menu and opening hours. This guide covers six businesses, not six distinct addresses.
Is every Plumeria dish vegan?
No. Follow its menu labels and avoid the dairy cheesy wontons. The operator specifically offers a samosa substitution in the sampler; confirm the rest of your order with staff.
Does this guide cover restaurants outside San Diego?
The featured addresses are in San Diego. Other branches mentioned by an operator are not interchangeable with the city location named here.
Do I need to accept Google Maps to read the guide?
No. Restaurant information, addresses and ordinary links remain available. Google photos and mini-maps are optional and can be enabled or withdrawn through the normal website cookie settings.
Research notes & image credit
Checked 18 September 2026. Official restaurant websites, local branch pages and operator-linked menus were prioritized. The source links appear with each profile. This is desk research, not a claim of personal visits, telephone confirmation or a live reservation. Menu examples are a snapshot, not a promise of availability.
KINDRED’s linked menu PDF was not readable during this check, so no named dish is guaranteed. Plumeria’s ambiguous Friday dinner start is flagged in its profile. The shared Donna Jean/Evolution address and their different schedules are intentional. Opening hours, menus, prices and service policies can change. Restaurant hours are not always kitchen hours. Vegan descriptions concern ingredients; they do not guarantee allergy-safe preparation or separate equipment.
