Morocco coastal stays · research checked 13 September 2026

Searching for vegan hotels in Essaouira? This Atlantic destination offers more than one way to organise a plant-based stay. Compare TEMPO Vegan B&B in the surrounding countryside, Riad Baladin for a medina breakfast with explicit vegan choices, and L’Heure Bleue Palais for a traditional city hotel with restaurant-level vegan options.

Which Essaouira stay fits your plans?

Start with TEMPO when a vegan-led accommodation concept matters most. Choose Riad Baladin for a city riad with specific vegan breakfast items. Consider L’Heure Bleue Palais for a hotel-and-restaurant stay, with breakfast agreed separately. The first is described as a vegan B&B by its operator; the other two are conventional properties with vegan food options. [E1] [E2] [E4]

Location matters: TEMPO’s written address is in Bouzama, outside Essaouira, not in the medina shown in the title photograph. The two riads offer town-based alternatives. Compare the journey to your accommodation as carefully as the food.

Three stays with different food strengths

Choose between a town base and a countryside pause

For medina days and town evenings

Riad Baladin identifies its location in Essaouira’s medina. L’Heure Bleue Palais lists 2 rue Ibn Battouta and presents itself as a traditional riad hotel in town. These are the city-based options in this comparison; neither shares the countryside setting of TEMPO. [E3] [E5]

Our suggestion is to choose a town base when you expect to spend most evenings out. Ask your host where a driver can stop and how to reach the entrance with luggage, rather than assuming door-to-door vehicle access.

For a smaller retreat outside the city

TEMPO describes its setting as countryside just outside Essaouira and gives Bouzama as its written location. Plan arrival and town outings from the host’s confirmed address. A booking platform’s broad “Essaouira” label should not be treated as a medina address. [E1]

Vegan accommodation and vegan-friendly riads

Stay 01 · Operator-described vegan B&B

TEMPO Vegan B&B

Location: Bouzama, Essaouira countryside
Best fit: travellers prioritising a small vegan-led place to stay

TEMPO’s operator describes the property as a 100% vegan bed-and-breakfast. It is a four-room house, with private bathrooms and rooms facing the pool. That gives it a distinct identity within this shortlist: the vegan concept belongs to the accommodation itself, rather than a single dish at an otherwise mixed restaurant. [E1]

Start your enquiry with the meals you need, not with a request to remove ingredients from a standard hotel buffet. Ask what breakfast includes, whether lunch or dinner can be arranged for your dates, and how much notice the hosts need. A vegan concept does not automatically establish all-day food service or a full-board price.

For a few nights outside town, decide how many evenings you want to spend at the house and how often you want to go into Essaouira. Arrange the first arrival carefully, including pickup, food after a late journey and the time you expect to reach the property.

Our suggested use of this stay is a slower countryside interval with planned town outings, rather than booking it as though the medina were outside the front door. The operator’s vegan description is clearly attributed here; this guide has not independently audited every furnishing, toiletry or supply used at the property.

Food basis: explicit vegan-B&B positioning by the operator. Confirm the meals served during your stay and what the selected rate includes.

Stay 02 · Concrete vegan breakfast choices

Riad Baladin

Location: Essaouira medina
Best fit: a riad stay with a clearly described plant-based morning meal

Baladin’s services page lists plant-based milk, vegan Moroccan msemen and homemade hummus among its breakfast options. Breakfast is served on the rooftop or in the riad’s lounge areas. These are item-level examples from the operator, not an inference based on the word “vegetarian”. The ordinary service remains mixed. [E2]

The riad also describes a patio jacuzzi. Keep that facility separate from a swimming pool when comparing it with TEMPO or L’Heure Bleue. The exact room, stairs and route to the breakfast space are worth discussing when access matters to your party. [E2] [E3]

Ask for the breakfast combination you will actually receive, including suitable bread and any cooked item you prefer. For an early departure, there is a useful practical lead: the riad offers earlier service by reservation and a takeaway breakfast arrangement. Confirm the food and collection time rather than relying only on the normal breakfast window. [E2]

Lunch and dinner need their own plan. Our suggestion is to use a dependable riad breakfast as the anchor of a town-based stay, then leave space for evenings out. Do not assume that a vegan morning selection makes every associated restaurant dish vegan or includes other meals in the room price.

Food basis: explicit vegan breakfast items published by the riad. This is a vegan-friendly breakfast offer, not a claim that the entire property or every meal is vegan.

Stay 03 · Restaurant-level vegan options

L’Heure Bleue Palais

Location: 2 rue Ibn Battouta, Essaouira
Best fit: a traditional city hotel with a planned restaurant dinner

Relais & Châteaux lists vegan options for Le Salon Oriental, the restaurant at L’Heure Bleue Palais. This is a specific restaurant-level statement from the hotel’s hospitality association. It does not make every restaurant service at the property vegan, and it does not establish the ingredients of the ordinary breakfast buffet. [E4]

The hotel’s own information describes 33 rooms and suites, a courtyard setting and a rooftop swimming pool. It provides a different accommodation format from both a smaller B&B and a riad with a jacuzzi. Match the room category to your preferred space and access rather than assuming identical layouts. [E5]

Ask Le Salon Oriental for the current vegan dishes and reserve the evening meal separately. Clarify the complete preparation, including stock, butter, sauces and garnishes. A published vegan-options listing is useful, but it should lead to a specific order, not a guess based on the names of vegetables in a menu.

Breakfast deserves equal attention. Request a filling vegan version, where it will be served and whether it is included in the rate under consideration. Our planning suggestion is to combine that with one reserved dinner, then keep the rest of the trip flexible around your days in town.

Food basis: vegan options listed for Le Salon Oriental by Relais & Châteaux. Breakfast, actual dishes, restaurant operation and supplements should be confirmed separately.

Agree the food and the location together

Three useful questions

What is the complete breakfast? Which other meals can the property provide? How will you reach town or return after an evening out?

For a countryside stay, those answers belong together. For a city riad, a well-planned breakfast may be enough to leave the rest of the day flexible. Check inclusions rather than buying the broadest package by default.

A message for your host

We eat vegan, without meat, fish, seafood, animal stock, dairy, butter, eggs or honey. Please describe breakfast and any other meals available for our dates. Which are included, what needs reserving, and can you confirm the exact arrival address and pickup arrangements?

A slower Atlantic stop after Marrakech

The national tourism office highlights Essaouira’s medina, maritime setting and coastal activities. Our editorial suggestion is to give the town its own stay rather than treating it only as a hurried excursion. Leave one period for the old town and waterfront, another for time at your accommodation, and choose any activities around your interests. [E6]

At TEMPO, group town outings to avoid unnecessary back-and-forth travel. At a city riad, keep evenings flexible and arrange restaurant reservations only for the nights you plan to return. An arrival-night meal and a clear breakfast plan often resolve more practical uncertainty than a long list of attractions.

This is an accommodation guide, not a transfer timetable or an assessment of sea conditions. Confirm transport and the suitability of any water activity separately. Our Marrakech guide and Agadir–Taghazout comparison provide different options for the next part of a Morocco itinerary.

Vegan hotels in Essaouira: FAQ

Is there a vegan B&B in the Essaouira area?

TEMPO describes itself as a vegan B&B. Its countryside location is in Bouzama, outside the medina. The claim is attributed to the operator, not presented as an independent certification. [E1]

Which riad publishes specific vegan breakfast items?

Riad Baladin lists plant-based milk, vegan msemen and hummus. Ask for the combination available for your dates and tell the team about any additional dietary needs. [E2]

Is L’Heure Bleue Palais entirely vegan?

No such claim is made here. Relais & Châteaux lists vegan options at Le Salon Oriental within conventional hotel dining. Breakfast and other restaurant services need separate confirmation. [E4]

Are all three properties in the medina?

No. TEMPO is the countryside choice. Riad Baladin and L’Heure Bleue are town-based alternatives. Use the host’s confirmed address rather than treating every Essaouira listing as a central location.

Do all three properties have a swimming pool?

TEMPO and L’Heure Bleue describe swimming pools. Baladin describes a patio jacuzzi instead. Check current availability and the facility that belongs to your selected accommodation. [E1] [E2] [E5]

Does a breakfast-inclusive rate confirm vegan meals?

It confirms a service, not the precise food or the other meals in your stay. Agree the dishes, serving times and any extra charges with the property before relying on an included arrangement.
